Where he comes from

Elon Musk comes from Pretoria, South America. He taught himself computer programming and, at the age of twelve, sold a computer code for a video game. He moved to Canada in 1988 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Elon Musk does, in fact, come from a wealthier family, but he never received an inheritance. His mother was a model and dietitian, and his father was an engineer and real estate developer.

Childhood

Like I said before Musk never received any financial inheritance or large financial gifts. He also said that his father’s financial situation declined, and that he and his brother Kimbal have had to provide financial support to their father in the past.

Musk has stated that he grew up in a middle income household that eventually transitioned to the upper middle class. He also said that his youth was marked by financial problems at different points throughout his childhood along with emotional complexities.

How he got his fortune

Musk has built his fortune by starting companies and investing in existing ones. In 1995, with his brother Kimbal, he co-founded Zip2, an online city guide software company. He also co-founded X.com, which he later merged to form PayPal. He sold his company (Zip2) to Compaq for $307 million dollars in 1999. He then used the proceeds to co-found X.com. Tesla was Musk’s most valuable asset and the primary driver of his wealth, however.

While Elon Musk didn’t find Tesla, he was an early investor and became CEO of the company in 2008. Since then, Tesla has grown into the most valuable car company in the world. Around 75% of Musk’s wealth derived from Tesla stock in November 2020, a proportion that fell to about 37% as of December 2022 after selling nearly $40 billion in company shares since late 2021.

Where is Elon Musk today?

Elon Musk is the wealthiest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of US$347.7 billion as of March 6, 2025, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes.

Elon Musk has 14 children and the mothers (yes, motherS) names are Justine Musk, Grimes Musk, Shivon Zilis, and Ahsley St. Clair. Justine Musk and Elon Musk were married from 2000-2008; they has 6 children between 2002-2006. He has 3 children with Grimes. With Director of Neuralink, Shivon Zilis, Musk has 4 children, including twins born in 2021. Ashley St. Clair gave birth to his 13th child in late 2024, but Musk has not publicly acknowledged this child.

Currently, Musk is the senior advisor for the president of the United States. Lately in particular, he has been a part of many different controversial matters and has generated tons of negative media attention.
