Introduction

For the 2025 senior girls soccer players, it was their last home game at EPHS. Senior Night took place on Monday, May 12, 2025, and ended in a tie versus Payton College Prep. This year on the team, there were 8 seniors. They are Alyssa Andersen, Lauren Scheidt, Anya Zhdan, Sophia Chora, Megan Nettelhorst, Leyla Medina, Sofia Alvarez, and Ema Bode. Some of these seniors might be playing in college, and some are not. We’ll find out in this article if these seniors will keep playing the sport they love.

Game Result

The game ended tied 2:2. All seniors started in the first eleven. At the end of the first half, the score was 2:0. Payton was winning the first half. EPHS wanted to win the game for the seniors. They wanted to come back stronger at the start of the second half. Ten minutes into the second half, EPHS scored, making it 2:1. EPHS were attacking and pressuring the team a lot. In the 20th minute, EPHS scored again, tying the game 2:2. During the last 6 seconds, EPHS took a corner kick, and some players from EPHS missed three chances for a goal. The team was happy they didn’t lose, but they were looking for a win for Senior Night.

Interviews

I interviewed the seniors on the team and asked them a few questions: What college or university are you attending? Are you planning to play soccer there? What will you be majoring in? Here are their responses.

Alyssa Andersen:

• What college or university are you attending? University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign
• Will you continue to play soccer there? Yes, I am planning to play for the club team at my university.
• What will you be majoring in? I am majoring in Information Science and Data Science.

Lauren Scheidt:

• What college or university are you attending? Valparaiso University
• Will you continue to play soccer there? No, but I may possibly play club or intramural soccer.
• What will you be majoring in? I am in a 3+2 PA program that is a Bachelor’s in Health Science and a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies.

Anya Zhdan:

• What college or university are you attending? University of Iowa
• Will you continue to play soccer there? No, I will probably not.
• What will you be majoring in? Nursing

Sophia Chora:

• What college or university are you attending?Illinois Institute of Technology
  
• Will you continue to play soccer there? I will probably be joining a club or intramural soccer team if it doesn’t get in the way of any of my work. 
• What will you be majoring in? I will be majoring in Architecture.

Megan Nettelhorst:

• What college or university are you attending? Valparaiso University
• Will you continue to play soccer there? No, I will not, but I will probably join a club.
• What will you be majoring in? Nursing

Leyla Medina:

• What college or university are you attending? North Park University
• Will you continue to play soccer there? No, but I might play volleyball.
• What will you be majoring in? Nursing

Sofia Alvarez:

• What college or university are you attending? I’ll be going to Dominican University.
• Will you continue to play soccer there? I will not be playing soccer in college.
• What will you be majoring in? I will be majoring in Nursing.

Ema Bode:

• What college or university are you attending? University of Illinois Chicago
• Will you continue to play soccer there? No, I’m not.
• What will you be majoring in? Integrated Health Studies for Pre-Nursing

Conclusion

The team and coaches will miss the seniors for their positive energy at games. The seniors had fun these last four years playing the sport they loved at EPHS. Good luck, seniors. We’ll miss you!
