1. The Amazing Digital Circus

First on our list is The Amazing Digital Circus, about a young woman named Pomni who is trapped in a huge circus-themed VR game. She meets five other people and is controlled by a mysterious, mischievous, human-like AI named Caine. These people have to keep themselves from “abstracting” or losing their minds in order to further prevent themselves from becoming monstrous versions of themselves. The plot revolves around these circus members trying to escape, while holding on to their reality and memories. This all happens while Caine pushes them closer to losing sanity by creating adventures. This show is dark yet full of humor.
Number 2: The Summer I Turned Pretty

The second show on our list is The summer I Turned Pretty, which is a romantic, coming of age story about a girl named Belly Conklin, a 16 year old who finds herself falling into a love triangle with her mother’s friend’s two sons, Conrad and Jeremiah. The setting takes place at the Cousins’ beach house, where Belly navigates the complexities of her first love, her family, and the heartbreak of her mom’s friend dying while battling cancer. The core conflict revolves around Belly trying to figure out her transformation from a young teenager to a woman while also navigating her feelings for Conrad and Jeremiah. There is a trilogy for this series.
Number 3: Young Sheldon

Young Sheldon is a prequel sitcom series to The Big Bang Theory that revolves around Sheldon Cooper during his childhood. This whole sitcom mainly revolves around an older Sheldon, making memoirs about his childhood, on being a child prodigy, while living with a religious and conservative east Texas family. The setting takes place in a fictional town in Medford, Texas, during the late 1980s and 1990s. The show highlights all of Sheldon’s struggles as he tries to fit into the surroundings despite his high expectations. His unique traits and personality also contribute to the conflict with his family trying to understand him.
Number 4: Hamilton

The theatrical show is considered to be very popular, explaining the struggles of Alexander Hamilton, a founding father and one of the main authors of the Federalist Papers. Made by Lin-Manuel Miranda, this show depicts the Revolutionary War; Hamilton’s work in helping create The U.S. Constitution, along with his work as the first Secretary of the Treasury; and his very complicated relationship with Aaron Bur, which leads to a fatal duel. This show inputs a combination of Hip-Hop, R&B, and show tunes that help describe Hamilton’s life, making history open to all people who want to hear about it. Major motifs include immigration, legacy, ambition, and, most importantly, the American Dream.
Number 5: Gossip Girl

This amazing franchise started originally with a beautiful young adult novel series but later expanded into a TV show. This show centers on the scandalous lives of a privileged group of teenagers on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Made in the 2000s, it shows the high society lives of Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen in post 9/11 New York. Suddenly, their secrets and drama is mysteriously chronicled and made public through a tip-driven website. An anonymous blogger who calls themselves “Gossip Girl” reveals every detail to the public. This series explores different motifs of wealth, class, identity, and ambition through the portrayal of these affluent, often incompatible, teenagers and their complex relationships.
Number 6: Outer Banks

Outer Banks is a popular TV show that mainly revolves around a group of kids who are searching for lost and very ancient treasure. Based on a real place in North Carolina, this group of kids, the “Pogues”, live in a place called “The Cut”. They are often called out by their enemies, the Kooks, who are the wealthiest people in the land. These groups often find themselves bickering with one another for the treasure among other things. This show develops the motifs of adventure, mystery, and friendship.

Number 7: Death Note
This anime series is popular and was made in the 2000s. This series follows a high school student named Light Yagami, who discovers a supernatural notebook that kills whoever’s name is written in it. This character then uses the book to create a new, crime-free world to kill criminals. He is paid a visit by the original owner, Ryuk A Shiganami. This show explores the motifs of justice and morality, examining different views on the philosophical question of who deserves to live and die.
Number 8: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

This show revolves around the conclusion of the popular Star Wars trilogy, as well as the tragic downfall of young Anakin Skywalker, and the transformation of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire by Sith Lord Darth Sidious (also known as Palpatine). Young Skywalker proceeds to become Darth Vader, the horrifying, evil, and most iconic villain we all know in the Star Wars universe. This show also depicts the near-extermination of the Jedi, along with Padme’s death and the birth of Anakin’s twin children, Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker.
