Introduction
With the arrival of the autumn season, Halloween is just around the corner One of the most popular traditions tied with celebrating Halloween is watching horror movies, so be prepared to grab your popcorn and hold onto the edge of your seat because I’ll be talking about the most gruesome, the most disturbing, and the most terrifying horror movies you have either never heard of or have and love! In order to figure out what horror movies you and I are going to watch this Halloween, I’ve conducted a survey through Google Forms to get more insight into our Tigers’ top 3 best horror movies and the reasons why they enjoy them.

(Wes Craven)
1. Scream (1996)
In the small town of Woodsboro, one year after the murder of Sidney Prescott’s mother, she and her friends started receiving strange phone calls from an unidentified caller. The phone calls consisted of a series of questions like, “What’s your favorite scary movie?”, along with scary movie trivia. Later on in the movie, they learned that the calls were coming from a serial killer who wears a white faced mask and a large black robe, plotting revenge. As far as they know, the identity of this serial killer remains a mystery as more people are being killed unexpectedly.

According to the survey, Scream absolutely dominated the other choices of horror movies voted on by 24.3% of our Tigers.

The Tiger Review
“It has the best cast and amazing writing.” – Patrick Stinar
“Only Scream 1. The other ones aren’t as good as the first; it’s also super entertaining even if you watch it 30 times.” – Sammie Fiore
“It has the best plots and I think the actors are probably so brave to be fake stabbed cause I could never.” – Raphael Franceshi
“It may not be the scariest movie, but it is a classic because of its commentary on other slasher movies.” – Joshua White
“My fav horror movie is Scream; I have seen all 6 of them and my fav one is Scream 1. It’s a classic. My fav person is Matthew Lillard.” – Kyle Randazzo
“Because it’s a movie that is scary and not scary at the same time, it’s my favorite. And it’s a movie that you’ll never get bored of.” – Daniel Galeno
“Because the plot is funny and it’s kinda creative.” – Farah Gomez
“Peak” – Aiden Perez
Melissa: To my surprise, a lot of you guys selected Scream as your favorite. I would’ve expected a movie like Halloween or Friday the 13th to get first place in the survey, but you guys have proved me otherwise. I personally do not agree on it being ranked the highest out of all the horror movies since I believe there are other horror movies that are much scarier and Scream has more emphasis on the elements of the drama and action genres than what you would expect from a typical horror movie. For my standard of horror movies, Scream is a basic choice but still a good one nonetheless. I’ve seen the Scream movies for myself and, I have to say, the first movie was the absolute best out of its 6 sequels, which was something that some of you guys have noted. From the mystery of finding the killer behind the mask, the suspense, and the cast, it would be hard for the sequels to beat. You can’t forget the comedy that comes in Wes Craven’s horror movies that makes these movies distinct from other horror movies of the slasher genre!
2. The Conjuring (2013)
In the year 1971, the day that Carolyn and Roger Perron moved into a Rhode Island farm house with their family, everything seemed normal. It was only a matter of time until they realized that their house is a magnet of intense paranormal activity, so they begin to investigate what’s causing this unusual amount of supernatural activity with the help of paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The Tiger Review
“Because it is very interesting and has unexpected turns.” – Adamaris Celso-Mendoza
“The Conjuring series is so interesting and all the movies are very good and detailed.” – Payton Bey
“lowk just goated movies.” – Jordyn Torres
Melissa: I’m also surprised with the fact that this movie is in the lead with Scream because I’ve never seen the movies myself, which is going to make it harder for me to get a grasp of understanding how this would be in our Tiger’s top 3 horror movies. But, I’ve done my research on The Conjuring and the man. It does look pretty terrifying just based on what I saw. From our Tiger’s reasons about picking this horror movie, I’m thinking about watching it soon because I can’t wait for the thrill and terror that it will deliver. Hopefully, it is scary enough to be able to give me nightmares!
3. Child’s Play (1988)
As a serial killer, Charles Lee Ray gets shot in a toy store by Detective Mike Norris. He finds a popular kids’ doll in which he happens to transfer his consciousness so he can take on a new life and continue killing more people. A desperate single mother gives her son this most-sought after Chucky doll as a gift for his birthday. Overtime, the doll starts to slowly show its true colors.
The Tiger Review
“A classic horror movie with comedic elements.” – Jose Velazquez

Melissa: I actually agree with Child’s Play taking third place in the survey because I also love the Child’s Play movies as they hold a special place in my heart. I especially love how distinct Chucky is from the other famous slashers from slasher movies. Among other horror movies that depict a serial killer who usually is silent and has capabilities beyond human knowledge, Chucky is very distinct from them as he is a killer with limited abilities, which means that you might as well defeat him by kicking him because of his small size. He’s also talkative, which a lot of people wouldn’t expect from a doll.
Conclusion
Once you start getting into the Halloween spirit, I encourage those of you who are horror enthusiasts to look deeper into the horror genre of movies because you can find gems of that genre you’ve never heard of before, like Child’s Play and The Conjuring. Who knows? You might end up finding yourself falling in love with these movies, as I might feel with The Conjuring!
