Top 5 Best MLB Teams

Top 5 Best MLB Teams

Major League Baseball has become very popular in recent years. Some of the teams have had more than forty-five thousand people come out and watch them play. Since there is 30 MLB teams in America, for this issue of The Tiger, I decided to send out a poll and ask my peers what the top 5 best MLB teams are.

Chicago Cubs

In first place, with 47.7% of the votes is the Chicago Cubs. The team was established in 1870 and was originally called the White Stockings; the name changed in 1907 to the Chicago Cubs. The name changed because there were so many young players on the team so Chicago thought Cubs was a better fit for the team name. The Cubs played in the national league and they have won 3 World Series titles (1907,1908, 2016). The team has won 6 out of the MLB’s first 11 championships. From 1876 to 1945 the cubs were considered one of the most successful teams in the country.

Atlanta Braves

In second place, with 20.2% of the votes is the Atlanta Braves. The Atlanta Braves were first established in 1871 in Boston, Massachusetts. The Braves original name was Boston Red Stockings but it was changed to Braves in 1912. The Braves are the oldest operating sports franchise in North America. The Atlanta Braves are the only team to have played every season of professional baseball since it came into existence. The Braves have won 4 world series titles (1914,1957,1995,2021). They’ve also won 18 National League Pennants.

LA Dodgers

In third place, with 19.3% of the votes is the LA Dodgers. The Dodgers were first established in 1883. The Dodgers original name was the Atlantics; the name was changed to the LA Dodgers in 1913. The Dodgers have won 7 World Series titles (1959,1963,1965,1981,1988,2020) and 24 National League Pennants. The Dodgers moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1958, their first game in Los Angeles was against the San Francisco Giants. They got the name Dodgers while fans tried to get into the stadium, they would always try to dodge all the trolley traffic going through.

Chicago White Sox

Coming in fourth place with 9.5% of the votes, is the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox were founded in 1894 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, then relocated to Chicago in 1900. The White Sox were originally called the Sioux City Cornhuskers but then changed to the Chicago White Sox in 1904. The White Sox have won 3 World Series (1906,1917,2005) and have also won 6 National League Pennants. The White Sox and the Chicago Cubs are to be considered “rivals” that date back to 1900.

New York Yankees

Last but not least, coming in fifth place with 3.3% of the votes, is the New York Yankees. The Yankees were established in 1903 and they were originally called the Highlanders. They were called the Highlanders because they played at the top of Manhattan known as the “Hilltop”. The Yankees have won 27 World Series (1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009) and 40 National League Pennants.

Major League Baseball’s attendance rate have increased 9.6% since 2023. Ranking the top 5 teams only seemed right for this issue of The Tiger. Would you agree with the ranking of the teams?
