A Minecraft Movie
A Minecraft Movie trailer has been very contentious. Many who watched the trailer have been expressing how they think the movie looks very poorly animated and that the casting decisions were very questionable, especially that of the lead, Jack Black. The CGI in the trailer is noticeably low quality; the movie world of Minecraft looks absolutely nothing like the original game, which is another problem many people have thus far. Additionally, the costume design has been greatly criticized: both Jack Black’s costume as Steve and Jason Mamoa’s costume (as an unrevealed character) have been lambasted for their perceived laziness and lack of creativity. Despite all these criticisms, however, the excitement cannot be denied. The idea of a Minecraft movie has been tossed around for years. The game has always been popular and the fact that it is finally becoming a film franchise has many at the edge of their seat, but time will tell whether or not the movie is able to hold people’s interest. The movie is scheduled to release on April 4th, 2025.
Black Phone 2
Black Phone 2 is a sequel to the popular 2021 movie Black Phone. Reception has been very enthusiastic for this sequel, as the first movie was a massive success with consumers despite the fact that it didn’t receive the highest of scores on moving reviewing websites like IMDB or Metacritic. Audiences, however, have questioned what, exactly, the plot of this movie will be. To avoid spoilers, I will not speak on specifics, but the ending of the first movie was very climactic so it will be interesting to see how the director will continue to try and build on this story. The plot of the sequel has not been revealed yet but a few theories are that it will be an origin story for the main villain of the first movie and that the supernatural aspects of the first movie will play a much larger role in this movie. The movie is scheduled for a release date of October 17th, 2025.
The Conjuring: Last Rites
The fourth movie in the overwhelmingly popular Conjuring franchise The Conjuring: Last Rites follows Ed and Lorraine Warren, massively famous paranormal investigators whose experiences are the inspiration for The Conjuring franchise as a whole. The trailer itself is very tense and climatic; it seems that the plot of the movie will be every spirit that the Warrens have ever exorcised come back to attack them all at once. The trailer has generated excitement from the vast majority of people but also somewhat mournful, as this will be the last film in the long-running Conjuring franchise. However, a Conjuring series will be released on the streaming service Max. The movie is scheduled to release on September 5th, 2025.
Overall, 2025 is shaping up to be a great year for movies, but audiences and critics alike are asking themselves the same question we have been for years: “Why so many sequels?” Don’t get me wrong, a sequel to a well loved franchise will always stir up conversation and excitement, but new ideas and new franchises are what keep the film industry well-balanced and thriving. Regardless, we movie buffs certainly have a lot to look forward to!
