Introduction
It’s the season of love. Whether you’re single or not, it’s a great time to reflect on some of your favorite couples in the media, which is what I will be doing here. In this article, I want to share my favorite couples in the media, reflect on them, and share some of your favorites as well. Who knows, maybe these couples will even teach you a thing or two about relationships.
#10. Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale

Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale are two iconic villains from the popular fifties cartoon Rocky and Bullwinkle. The show was meant to be anti-Soviet, and Boris and Natasha are two Russian spies who cause wacky hijinks to inconvenience Rocky and Bullwinkle. In the show, Boris and Natasha are used for comedic relief. Although these two are comedic characters, they do not treat their relationship as a joke. The two call each other pet names and make sure to take care of each other. The couple eventually quit their jobs as spies to get married. Besides the cartoon, Boris and Natasha also have a movie together that was released in 1992. In the movie, the two get sent to America for a mission and start to question who they’re working for. The two are a cute and fun couple, but they aren’t my favorite, which is why they are so low on the list.
#9. Egon Spengler and Janine

Egon Spengler and Janine Melnitz from the 1980s movie Ghostbusters are one of my all-time favorite couples. The two are absolutely adorable together. Since these two are so great, you may be wondering why they’re so low on the list. This is because Egon and Janine are never officially a couple in any of the Ghostbusters’ movies. In the first movie, Janine clearly has a crush on Egon, flirting with him and even giving him a hug. However, Egon isn’t very good with emotions, so he doesn’t get her cues at all. In the 1980s show Real Ghostbusters, Egon seems to develop a crush on Janine as well, and, in the 2001 cartoon Extreme Ghostbusters, Egon and Janine share a kiss together after Egon finally realizes that Janine has a crush on him. Although the two aren’t an official couple, they have cute couple-like moments together that Ghostbusters’ fans enjoy.
#8. Patrick Verona and Kat Stratford

From the iconic 1990s movie Ten Things I Hate About You, Patrick and Kat meet when Patrick is paid by a boy named Cameron James to take Kat out. Kat, an abrasive character, doesn’t fall for Patrick as quick as Cameron would hope. However, throughout the movie, Kat starts becoming interested in Patrick after he reveals that he isn’t as much of a jerk as she thought he was. Near the end of the movie, Kat eventually finds out that Patrick was being paid to take her out. When Kat discovers this, her heart is broken, and so is Patrick’s. At the end of the movie, Patrick ends up apologizing and confessing his true feelings to Kat. The two then make up and officially become a couple.
#7. Jade and Beck

Seventh on the list is Jade and Beck from the 2010 Nickelodeon show Victorious. If you’ve seen the show, you know that the two have a very rocky relationship history, but they never stop loving each other. Beck is a more down to earth boyfriend, while Jade is a very overprotective girlfriend when it comes to Beck. Jade is protective because girls are always flirting with Beck, which has led to problems in their relationship. Beck and Jade have had multiple fights and have broken up a few times over the course of the show. Although their relationship has been extremely rocky, the two never stop loving each other no matter what they say. They even love each other’s flaws, which is why they’re on this list.
#6. Kermit the frog and Miss Piggy
Kermit and Miss Piggy from the Muppets are two of the most iconic characters in television history. Kermit and Miss Piggy met as co-stars on the Muppets show, officially falling in love in The Muppets Movie. Miss Piggy claims “it was love at first sight.” You may be wondering why Kermit and Piggy are so low on the list; this is actually because the two aren’t actually together anymore. The couple has historically had an on again and off again relationship, and they officially broke up in 2015. Because of this, you may be wondering why I even added the two to this list at all. Kermit and Miss Piggy are on the list due to their chemistry and their ability to respect each other’s boundaries and support each other when in need. In the 2015 Muppets show, the breakup is addressed and is a huge part of the story line. The two also have an occasional rivalry, but it never goes too far. In the 2015 series, the viewers were left with a small cliffhanger regarding Kermit and Miss Piggy’s relationship. In the show, they started to develop feelings for each other again. Viewers sadly never got to see the development of this relationship due to the cancellation of the show. Nevertheless, the two will always be known as an iconic couple that is adored by many.
#5. Five and Dolores

This is a bit of a weird one, but I had to include one of my favorite characters somehow. Five Hargreaves and Dolores Hargreaves are from the show Umbrella Academy (which was originally a comic). Five and Dolores meet when Five accidentally time jumps into the apocalypse. Five ends up stranded with no way back, feeling hopeless and alone. Five found Dolores under some rubble and stuck with her for nearly thirty years. Although Dolores is a mannequin, she helped Five through an extremely tough, lonely time. The two are not only a funny “couple” but a sweet reminder that people can find love in the strangest places.
#4. Barbara Maitland and Adam Maitland

Barbara Maitland and Adam Maitland from the 1980s movie Beetlejuice are ghosts who tragically died in a car accident. The two are married and live in a huge house together that ends up being bought by the Deetz family. Barbara and Adam want their house to themselves, so they attempt to scare the family away. Barbara and Adam are a sweet couple who love, support, and comfort each other, even after they die and are pretty much alone in the world. Adam sweetly states that “maybe this is heaven” when Barbara questions why they’re alone in the afterlife. Barbara and Adam’s love goes beyond the phrase “till death do us part.”
#3. Marge Simpson and Homer Simpson

Marge and Homer need no introduction, starring in the longest-running cartoon and iconic television series The Simpsons. The Simpsons was first introduced as a segment on the Tracy Ullman show in the 1980s, and it quickly became a success. Marge and Homer are married with three children (Bart, Lisa, and Maggie). The two aren’t a perfect couple, but they always stay loyal to each other. Although Marge and Homer have had multiple fights throughout the series, the two always work things out figuring out how to forgive and compromise. Like I said before, Marge and Homer have three kids. Like any family, they aren’t perfect parents, but the two of them have managed to raise three good kids. Marge and Homer’s imperfections are what make them not only a realistic couple but a sweet one.
#2. Lisa Swallows and The Creature

Lisa Swallows and The Creature are from the 2024 movie Lisa Frankenstein a horror/romance movie about a misunderstood teenage girl who falls in love with a reanimated Victorian corpse. The two are both misunderstood by the world, which is one of the many things that makes them compatible . Although The Creature cannot speak, he clearly develops a crush on Lisa and will do almost anything for her. In the movie Lisa and The Creature have some wholesome moments together. Lisa helps sew lost body parts onto The Creature, they play piano together, and they go on a small killing free together in order to collect body parts for The Creature. The two end up falling in love, promising to spend the rest of their lives with each other.
Honorable Mentions
I sent out a poll to all of EPHS to showcase some of your favorite couples on this list. The couples that made this list include:

- Lee Myung-Gi and Kim Jun-Hee from season two of Squid Game
- Anna and Kristoff from the 2013 Disney movie Frozen
- Amy Santiago and Jake Peralta from the 2013 show Brooklyn Nine-Nine
- Tom Holland and Zendaya, known for their roles as Spider-man and MJ, are an iconic celebrity couple who recently got engaged on January 6, 2025

#1. Morticia Addams and Gomez Addams

Morticia Addams and Gomez Addams from the Addams family have to be the healthiest couple in TV history. The two characters are from the iconic 1960s show The Addams Family (I’d also like to mention that in every iteration these two show the same amount of love and affection towards each other). Morticia and Gomez have two kids together (Wednesday and Pugsley) The two always show each other love and affection. They never fight and always have each other’s backs. The two are also extremely romantic with each other, always making sure to compliment each other and outwardly state how madly they love each other. Although not every relationship can be as perfect as Morticia and Gomez’s, you can learn a lot on how to compromise and show affection towards your partner from them, whether its outwardly saying it, showing physical affection, gift giving, or just helping the one you love through thick and thin.
Conclusion
Couples in media have a way of capturing our hearts whether there fictional or not they always find a way to make audiences laugh and cry.
