As we continued to walk away from school with Dre having his arms wrapped around me, I still couldn’t get past the fact that he would do such a thing in front of everybody. Ew, that is not how I talk. Maybe I’m starting to talk like him a little bit. On certain days he talks kind of proper to me but then sometimes it’s confusing because the next minute he talks ghetto. Pick how you wanna talk, child, smh. Anyways, I’m getting side tracked on the story and I need y’all to keep me on track, okay? So where were we? Oh yeah, so as me and Dre are walking and everybody and they momma looking, we come across a group of girls that’s in front of us laughing and looking back at the same time. I wanna say something so bad but am trying to keep it cute and demure. So, he’s telling me about his day and how he felt about each teacher in each of his classes and I’m just listening to him and engaging in the conversation.
Although I’m still listening to him, my mind is still wondering why the four girls were still looking back and laughing. I politely end up telling him to hold on real quick. I went over to the group and politely said to all of them, “I’m respectfully coming to ya’ll female to females and asking that whatever ya’ll find funny, please tell me so we all can laugh together as a whole.” I already knew once I said what I said that they either were going to stay quiet or have something to say after I left, which I would be fine with because I already spoke my peace. Dre then smiled at me and asked what I did. I told him and he proceeded to tell me that “They only laughing because them the girls that’s been trying get at me and I ghosted every last one of them, but I also told them I had a girl.” And, BOOM, right there is when he got me because what do you mean “YOU GOT A GIRL??” Y’all see what I’m questioning, right? I’m not crazy or overthinking it?! Why the girls had been laughing still didn’t make sense to me, but I left it alone and kept walking.
About two blocks from my house I had a feeling that he didn’t want to let me go because of how tight yet gentle he was with his arm still wrapped around my neck. I let him know that were almost by my house and he replies, “I’ll walk you home safely if you don’t mind”, and I said I didn’t mind. NOW, YA”LL, if this isn’t him flirting with me then I don’t know what is! I was so excited because a boy never wanted to walk me home before. I’m used to walking home half way by myself because most people live on the other side of the tracks so when my phone proceeded to ring I wasn’t surprised that it was my mom calling to see where I’m at and if I’m safe. I told her that I was a block away from the house. Dre then yelled out, “Hello, Momma Dukes, how are you?” My mom asked who was speaking and I told her my friend, Dre, from school who was willing to walk me home. My mom then replied that she was doing good and she thanked him for being a gentleman because he decided to walk me home when he didn’t have to. While I’ve been treated with respect by different people, I never experienced someone who was willing to walk me home from school and actually be so sweet. BUT I told myself not to get my hopes up because he may have turned into Inside Out with all these mixed emotions that come out of nowhere. Still, it felt kind of good at that moment. I, of course, knew that there was more to come – whether it was good or bad.
When we got in front of my house we both looked at each other with the most intense look ever, but it wasn’t in a bad way. It was almost like we both were falling in love with each other. And I know you are over there smiling, wishing this was you, but it’s okay, honey, because your time is coming. He asked me if I wanted to walk to school with him the next day; I told him yeah. I knew I didn’t have anything else to do, plus I needed to lose a few pounds from all that restaurant food I had been eating.
My mom and dad both came out of the house and saw us hugging before he left. They both said in a sarcastic way, “AWWW, look at our daughter growing up so fast”, and I said to myself “Is they serious right now right?” My dad then SURPRISINGLY asked him how far he lived and if he wanted a ride home because it was supposed to storm real soon. Dre said sure and that he’ll ask his mom if it was okay with her. Now, let’s pause for a second while he called his mom so I can see if ya’ll agree me or not. Don’t ya’ll find it weird how my dad NEVER met this boy before and he was just up and willing to give him a ride home? I was pretty sure my dad was going to ask him tons of questions, which is something every parent does when it comes to anything involving their children.
Dre’s mom said yes and thanked my parents for being willing to drop him off at home. My parents thanked her and Dre once again for him walking me home. Him meeting my parents and my parents speaking to his mom was a very heartwarming moment. My dad told us that he’d be waiting in the car to take Dre home.
Dre and I ended up doing our handshake and hugging once more before my dad took him home. He told me with that beautiful smile on his stunning face, “I’ll see you later, D”, and I said back, “I’ll see you later, Dre”. I walked inside with my mom. Now I know y’all like, “Awww, this is a cute moment and blah blah blah”, BUT, no, it isn’t over. My noisy butt wanted to know what my dad had up his sleeve! So let’s see if things start to go left or right as we move further into the story. Stay tuned.
