Hey, Tigers! It’s Sarah and Martyna. We are very sad to say that this is our last article of the year for The Tiger. But with bad news always comes good news. (P.S. The good news is that it’s almost SUMMER!!!!) With that being said, we are very, very sad that it is our last article, but we are super excited for this piece, as it has been said to be an extremely controversial topic. Now, as you read from the heading of the article, today we will be discussing the top three Barbie movies that you guys voted for. We’ll also be giving our honest and “unbiased” opinions on the Top 3 selections.

Barbie: The Princess and The Popstar

Barbie: The Princess and The Popstar came in hot as the #1 pick of Barbie Movies according to our Google Form, filled out by our EPHS Tigers. It had 35.7% of the votes, which is a total of 20 votes. This 2012 animated movie was directed by Zeke Norton and written by Steve Granat and Cydne Clark. It is based on the 2004 Barbie film: Barbie as Princess and the Pauper. The story line is expressed as “Princess Tori wishes she could have an exciting life just like her favorite music star Keira. When the two meet, Tori convinces look-alike Keira to trade places.” This movie is available on streaming services such as YouTube, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Roku, and Max. Now, we don’t want to spoil the whole movie, as it’s expected for you to go home and watch it. So we’ll leave it at that and dive into our honest opinions about the placement of this movie.
Sarah: To say the least, I am really disappointed in you, Tigers, for voting this film as the number one pick. I honestly believe there are definitely better Barbie movies that could have taken the top spot, like Barbie as the Island Princess or Barbie: Princess Charm School. But, then again, I am not the one voting on this, you guys are. The movie is decently long at an hour and twenty-six minutes, but it’s not too long to the point where I’d fall asleep watching it. It is good and worth my time; I’m just not totally agreeing with the votes putting it at number one.
Martyna: Honestly, I was not expecting this movie to come in as the number one pick. In my opinion, the original Barbie as Princess and the Pauper is 100 times better than this movie. Both movies have the same story line, but the OG is always better. As much as I love all the Barbie movies, I feel like this one should not have come in first place. There are many other Barbie movies that I would rank higher over this one.
Barbie: Princess Charm School

Barbie: Princess Charm School came in close behind Barbie: The Princess and The Popstar as the number two pick in the vote. It had 32.1% of the vote, which is a total of 18 votes. This 2011 movie was directed by Zeke Norton and written by Elise Allen. Blair Willows was selected to attend the famed Princess Charm School where she meets her new friends, Princess Hadley and Princess Isla. However, when one of the royal teachers, Dame Devin, discovers that Blair looks a lot like the missing princess, she immediately changes her tone and does everything in her power to stop her from reclaiming the throne and rule of Gardenia. You’ll have to watch the movie for the rest of the story and the outcome!
Sarah: Although this movie came in second place, I strongly believe that it should have come in first! This is my ultimate favorite Barbie movie of all time. This was quite literally my dream as a child. I wished to go to a school full of princesses and little fairies as personal assistants. The school and their magic lockers where it changes your outfit in a matter of seconds is, to say the least unfair, in my opinion. Where is my locker that does that? The pretty pink heels, the dresses, and other clothes worn in this movie have me in a headlock. The bright, sparkly dresses and the cool hand made uniforms made the movie a thousand times better. To this day, I am still a fan of this movie and will always be up for watching it.
Martyna: I didn’t think it was possible, but I actually agree with our voting Tigers about this rating! This movie is a staple of my childhood; it was one of my many favorite movies growing up. I always wished that I could one day go to a school with magic lockers and a castle right next door. I also dreamed of having the uniforms and sparkly dresses in the movie. The little fairy companions made this movie 10 times better because they were always there for all the characters and brought their bubbly personalities along. The story line in the movie is also really interesting. When 6 year-old me first watched the movie, I was completely shocked at the idea that Blair could be the missing princess. I definitely recommend this movie!!
Barbie in a Mermaid Tail

Barbie in a Mermaid Tale came in as the third overall pick on our Google Form. It had 28.6% of the votes, which is a total of 16 votes. This 2010 movie was directed by Adam L. Wood and written by Elise Allen. Merliah, a surfer, discovers she is half-mermaid during a competition. When she learns the queen (her mom) of the underwater city of Oceana is in danger, she leaves to rescue her. This movie isn’t very long, just like the other Barbie movies, being only an hour and 15 minutes, so it won’t be taking up too much of your time. You can find this movie on streaming platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube, or you can, of course, always rent it from your local library. This is definitely one of the many movies all Tigers should watch in their free time!
Sarah: I actually agree with you, Tigers, on this pick! This movie definitely deserves to take the third spot for the top three because it is a good movie. The catchy songs and plot twisting events in this movie really had six-year old me in shambles, wondering whether or not she really was going to defeat the evil queen to save Oceana from the danger it was in. I always wished I was able to talk to dolphins and fish, umm, because why not? Do you know how cool it would be, not to mention flexing it on your friends? Unfortunately, the closest I got to living this movie was playing mermaid in the pool with my cousins. I would 100% recommend this movie, though, and the best part is that there is a sequel to this movie as well. So once you finish the first Barbie in a Mermaid Tail, which I know you will be doing this week, you might as well watch the second one…because you can’t just go on not knowing what is going to happen in the end.
Martyna: Again, I actually agree with the Tigers on this one! Barbie in a Mermaid Tale is definitely an underrated movie. As a child, I would always dream of being able to surf like Merliah, and I vividly remember asking my parents if I could get pink highlights in my hair. (Spoiler – They said no.) I have re-watched this movie so many times that I might even be able to recite some of the script. Also, who wouldn’t love to talk to animals, breathe underwater, or have a mermaid tail? I totally recommend this movie.
Now, no matter what age you are, you should 100% check out the movies above and let us know what you think. Look at us two – 16 year old girls who have jobs and drivers licenses – and we’re still watching Barbie and aren’t ashamed of it. It’s okay to have a guilty pleasure. This is ours and it always will be. We hope you enjoyed reading this, as it is our last article of The 2024/25 Tiger. And, don’t forget, you’re about to have two months of free time, so WATCH ALL THE BARBIE MOVIES!!! Peace out, Tigers. Yours truly, Sarah and Martyna ✌️✌️
