Twas the Night Before Midterms

Twas+the+Night+Before+Midterms

We hope you all enjoy the following poem! The Journalism Team wishes you a restful and joyous Winter Break!

‘Twas the night before midterms, when all through EPHS
The hallways were empty, they were tigerless;
The gradebook was waiting to be filled out with fear,
In hopes that good grades soon would be here;

The teachers were nestled all snug in their desks,
While visions of A+’s danced in their heads;
And Swanson in his chem lab, and Schneider at the map,
Had just settled down for a first semester recap,

When out from the hallway there arose such a clatter,
Linda sprang from her desk to see what was the matter.
Away from the entrance she flew like a flash,
Tore through the doors without a hall pass.

The light from the scanners of the K-12 Swipe
Made the lustre of the admin IDs so bright
When, what to her wondering eyes should occur,
But much tiger pride among the administrators,

With a powerful leader, who shined like a star,
She knew in a moment it must be ABR.
More rapid than eagles her team they came,
And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, SWOPE! Now, ANDREWS ! Now, MOFFET and RUBINO
On, TSAGALIS! On SLYVESTER! On, NOYES, ACOSTA, and GALLO!
We’re the best in the region! The finest fill our halls!
EP on top! EP on top! EP on top of them all!”

Smarter than students, but not as smart as AI,
The teachers plan, with hopes that their students will rise,
So up in their classrooms with exams to review,
They make sure the Google Forms are ready, with locked mode on, too.

And the paper rolled out from Mrs. Heinen’s room
The dreading and lasting AP Lit prompt bloomed.
As she drew in her head, and then heard a sound,
Down the stairs, Kiskat formulated an exam so profound.

Her shiny white fur, and her pink bow so cute,
Kiskat’s test may be hard, but nothing students can’t compute;
A bundle of questions Mr Lazz had to cram,
Are his students ready for their bio exam?

The lights– how they twinkled! In the brand new library!
Mr. Melich sat down to create a midterm so scary!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

And right down the hall, Cleys is losing sleep,
As she watches Heimler’s History so her teaching’s not weak;
She calls Rogus right over to keep her awake,
And together they laugh as they check for mistakes.

As the nighttime grew later and the clock had struck twelve,
The teachers began to exit themselves;
Though they were tired, they all confidently said,
Their students were prepared and had nothing to dread;

As they continued to leave from their work,
They passed ABR who gave them a smirk,
And as they walk past she tells them is shows,
How much effort they put and how the students continue to grow;

As everyone went to their cars, ABR gave a whistle,
And away they went home like the down of a thistle.
But they heard her exclaim, ere she drove through the Elmwood Park night,

GOOD LUCK ON MIDTERMS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
