This is 10th graders Melony Howe and Veronica Konarkowski.

We all know that Homecoming is approaching very quickly. Last year’s Homecoming was super fun but the music was not what the students had wished for. We aren’t implying anything bad about last year’s dance because it was amazing, but everything can be improved. Therefore, we want to make Homecoming 2024 the best and most lit Homecoming dance possible! We think in order to improve Homecoming this year we need better music. We asked you guys what songs you want to hear through a poll that was sent out to students to all grades: 9-12. We noticed that there were a lot of responses where people stated they prefer music from the 2010’s, rock, rap, pop, electronic, country, and Latin music, so we made sure to include songs from the genres everyone enjoys.

Listed below are some of the most frequent songs we received in your responses. These are definitely an excellent fit for Homecoming, from rap songs to Latin songs, to Pop and Hip-Hop music. Below, we included the artists, song titles, cover photos, and, most importantly, descriptions as to why they are good picks. We have created a playlist on Spotify in which we have linked at the end of the article. These songs are great for dances and parties. With these songs, everyone will enjoy the party! These are songs that not only some of us know, but pretty much everyone knows and tends to enjoy. This is a very opinionated article, including opinions from students and us, the publishers.

Top 10 songs

1.) “Carnival” – Ty Dolla $ign, Ye, and ¥$

This song was a popular pick among the students of EPHS. Here is why the students of EPHS believe this is a good song and should be played at Homecoming 2024: the song has a nice beat to it and rhythm, plus high school students tend to vibe to it. It’s more in the rap genre and many of our students enjoy that about it.

2.) “Hot To Go” – Chappell Roan

This is currently a very popular and well-known song, and there’s a TikTok dance that goes to the song. People tend to enjoy Chapell Roan’s song “Hot to Go” because of her relatable lyrics and awesome vocals.

3.) “Old Town Road” – Lil Nas X

This is a Hip-Hop/Rap song that became very enjoyable for many people once it grew in high demand and popularity. Though it was released in 2018, it didn’t become a hit until about a year after, and, at that time, the song quickly gained popularity due to its captivating lyrics and refrains. This is definitely an OG song and most of the students here most likely used to listen to it or still listen to it now. This song became quite memorable and unforgettable for the majority of students at EPHS and other high school students.

4.) “Area Codes” – Kaliii

The song gained attraction on TikTok and many teens in our age group know this song lyric by lyric. It’s a very catchy song and it definitely livens up the party.

5.) “Hotel Room Service” – Pitbull

This song is typically used as a party song and Homecoming is a party. Students enjoy listening to the lyrics and screaming this song at the top of their lungs and dancing their hearts out to it. This song has a great melody, as well.

6.) “Gasolina” – Daddy Yankee

This is a Latin song and we have many fellow Latin and Hispanic students among us. We wanted a variety of music in different languages and this one was brought up the most due to its catchy tunes, melody, and lyrics.

7.) “Lip Gloss” – Lil Mama

This song sends some unique but interesting messages. Students tend to flow with the melody and the lyrics in the song. Her voice is angelic but upbeat at the same time and this is what students enjoy most of all. Students, peers, parents, teachers, and any Millennial and Gen-Z will know this song. It is almost certain that everybody has heard this song before and this is due to how popular it has been and continues to be at this moment. This song is not only appealing to our generation but pretty much all generations.

8.) “Single Ladies” – Beyonce

This song is a classic: its catchy beat and empowering lyrics make students feel more confident and want to sing and dance their hearts out. Beyonce’s strong vocals appeal to many people, no matter the age. This song is a good pick.

9.) “Everytime We Touch” – Cascada

This song is beloved for its catchy melody and upbeat tempo. The lyrics are so uplifting and energetic and create a vibe that many people enjoy. This is a song that often gets people to dance and sing along, which makes it a popular choice for lively moments such as Homecoming.

10.) “Homecoming” – Kanye West

Many teenagers like listening to Kanye West, and this song is one of his most popular songs. It correlates to Homecoming from its lyrics and title. This song definitely fits the occasion and brings such nostalgic vibes along with heartfelt lyrics. The lyrics create a good atmosphere for celebrating high school memories and make us look forward to even more in the upcoming. years This song appeals to a wide range of students and it sets an energetic tone for the moment.

Hi, Tigers! My name is Melony Howe. I am a sophomore at Elmwood Park High School, and I am one of the staff reporters for The Tiger. I am vice president of my class, and I am a member of Snowball, Class Council, Math Club and DECA. I am also a part of the Concert Choir. I am interested in singing and dancing because I think it’s a great way to get my head clear from whatever is going on around me. As for the future, I plan to dedicate myself to getting a Master’s Degree in psychology.

Veronica Konarkowski, Staff Reporter

Hi! My name is Veronica Konarkowski. I’m a sophomore at Elmwood Park High School, and I am a staff reporter for The Tiger. I play soccer at EPHS. I also love tumbling and gymnastics. My interests are my friends, sports, and fashion. For my other extracurricular activities I am involved in the EPHS Class of ‘27 Council and I am in Snowball. After high school, I don’t have any specific plans yet, but I do know that I want to be successful.
