Both the sideline and competitive season bring so much enjoyment and excitement to our dancers but what actually goes into each season? Let’s have a deeper look on both seasons, especially the upcoming competitive season.
Sideline Dance:
The dance sideline season runs from early August to late October. During sideline season, the dancers perform at halftime during football games and support our team from the sidelines. Dances during sideline season consist of multiple dance styles, such as hip hop, jazz, and modern dance, fusing them all together to create a completely unique kind of dance. What sideline season looks like for our dancers is practice three days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays) from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, with games almost every Friday or every other Friday.
Competition Dance:
The competition season for our dancers runs from late October to late December. During competition season, our dancers practice three days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays) from 3:30 to 6:30 PM (5:30 PM on Fridays) to really focus and concentrate on choreography that will later be performed during competitions. During practices, our EPHS dance team is accompanied by a choreographer, who teaches our dancers a style of lyrical and contemporary dance, creating and showcasing a more emotional state of dance. Our dancers then show off their incredible talent and hard work at competitions where they perform and compete against half of the dance teams across Illinois. These competitions take place during the weekends. The EPHS dance team will have six different competitions for this year’s season. The team is excited for this season and hopes to place as they did in the 2023-2024 season, when they finished in 3rd place.
Conclusion:
Our EPHS dancers are excited to begin their competition season and are ready to face the challenges ahead, pushing through long, exhausting days to showcase incredible performances in the end. Come support your Dancing Tigers as they move forward in the season!
