Introduction:
The evolution of electronics has had a great impact on the ways humans communicate, beginning with the relay and advancing through the invention of the telephone to the mobile phone. Each device represents a leap in how humans connect and communicate with each other, allowing for further progression in technology.
The First Electronic Device:
The first electronic device invented was called a relay, invented by Joseph Henry. Relays are switches that open and close electric circuits using an electrical signal. The purpose of inventing this was to control circuits using an electrical signal and further improve the telegraph. When these were first invented, they were used to repeat signals in long-distance telegraph circuits, which led to the development of the telegraph.
What Came Next:
A couple of years after the telegraph had been invented, a man named Alexander Graham Bell was inspired by the idea that the telegraph could transmit electrical signals over long distances and aimed to develop a new device that could transmit the human voice. Eventually, he started working to create this device. He then met Thomas Watson, who was an electrical engineer, and he helped develop the telephone. After working for a while, Bell made the first successful phone call to Watson in 1876. Telephones were then released to the public in 1877 and were used for around 100 years before mobile phones became widely used.
Mobile phones were invented by Martin Cooper in 1973 when he thought of the concept of voice communication over a network. This then evolved with advancements in radio technology to enable wireless phone calls through a network of cells. Networks were originally created to have efficient information sharing between computers but were eventually connected through the development of cellular technology, where a network of cell towers was built across a region to transmit radio signals to and from mobile phones.
Impact:
Telephones greatly impacted everyone as they allowed for faster communication. Faster communication led to the ability to communicate across distances, which transformed personal and business relationships. Mobile phones were convenient, allowing people to stay connected anywhere and at any time. Both of these devices also led to economic growth by expanding markets, improving customer service, and boosting employment in related industries.
Conclusion:
Electronics have had a great impact on the way humans communicate and led to greater things being invented helping tasks become more convenient.
