February 14th is a day that many girls expect to receive gifts from either a partner, family member, sibling, or even a friend. Many girls, however, don’t expect to receive gifts from people because maybe they want to be original and independent. This one particular girl named Neice never wanted anything on Valentine’s Day…except for one year. Last year, she hoped for and wanted something on this one special Valentine’s Day. She had prayed and asked God for the love of her life because every guy she had previously been with made her realize that she should shield her trust, heart, and mindset as a young woman.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner and still without a date, Neice decided to plan on going downtown to take cute pictures, go to a cute, fancy restaurant, and enjoy herself alone by trying new things and later pampering herself at home to relax and reflect on her life and goals. At this point, Neice felt that spending time alone would bring her peace because she wouldn’t have to worry about negative energy being reflected on her as she was trying to change for the better.
On February 13th, 2024, Neice was laying in bed thinking about what she wanted to do for the day instead of sleeping through its entirety. She proceeded to get out of bed and say her daily prayer, like she always did to get her day started. She prayed to her heavenly Father that she would have an amazing day and asked for everyone else to be happy and feel loved this upcoming Valentine’s Day, including herself. Even though she didn’t have somebody to spend Valentine’s Day with other than herself, she still wanted to keep a positive attitude so that she wouldn’t be sad about being alone. Although she knew that she had her parents and friends to spend Valentine’s Day with, she didn’t want to spend time with them on this particular Valentine’s Day since they all had a partner to give them gifts and take them out to do nice things; she didn’t want to be the third wheeler of the party.
Neice then decided that she wanted to go on a walk with her dog to get some fresh air. Right when she walked outside, she saw a fine, tall, light skin, young boy with bright brown eyes, long curly hair, and a beautiful smile with braces leaving his apartment with his dog as well to take him out for a walk. So Neice said in her head, “OMG Lord, is this happening? Is this really happening? Am I gonna spend me Valentine’s Day with him? And If I am, please give me a sign.”
He turns around and smiles at her as he’s walking past her, but his dog and her dog end up barking at each other; they both proceeded to stop their dogs and apologize to each other. He then asks her what type of dog she has and she tells him that she has a Siberian Husky and he says that she has a very beautiful dog. She asks him the same question and he tells her his dog is an Alaskan Malamute. Neice loved Alaskan Malamutes because they almost look like Huskies. He asks her what her name is and he says that his mom’s name was the same as hers. That made Neice smile very hard because that’s very rare to hear. He tells Neice his name, Zayiah, and they both shake hands introducing themselves.
Zayiah tells Neice that he’s going to the dog park for a little bit and would like for her to come with if she didn’t mind. She says sure and on the walk over to the dog park, he made sure that she was walking on the inner portion of the sidewalk because he wanted to walk on the side closest to the street. Neice and Zayiah ended up talking about their dogs and what they had planned for Valentine’s Day. Zayiah tells her that he was going to the beach, his favorite spot when he needed peace of mind. He asked her about her plans and she tells him that she was going to go downtown but may end up staying home and cuddling with her dog because she didn’t have anybody to spend Valentine’s Day with. Shockingly, he tells her that he wouldn’t mind her spending Valentine’s Day with him at the beach, but he didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable because they just met and he didn’t want to seem weird asking her. She ended up telling him that she didn’t mind and that she would love to tag along. He gives her the address of where to meet the next day at 5 o’clock in the morning.
After they made plans, he began telling her that he was single and that he wasn’t in a relationship with anyone because every girl he was with prior wasn’t trustworthy. This made her think to herself because she went through the same issue time and time again as well. She told him this, and they both ended up laughing together because of how shocking it was.
Some time goes by and Neice tells Zayiah that she has to go but that she’ll see him tomorrow at his favorite spot and he says he’ll see her there and for her to be safe going home. As Neice is walking away, she feels a heart warming feeling and butterflies in her stomach because of the thought of her going to the beach with a person she just met. Once home and freshened up, she prayed, asking God to protect her from getting hurt or played like she did before.
It’s 4 in the morning, and as bad as Neice wanted to sleep in, she got up and got ready for the little date that she and Zayiah planned. Neice ended up bringing a blanket and a little snack so she wouldn’t be hungry and as she left the apartment, she thought she would’ve seen him leave the building as well, but she didn’t. Walking, she felt the fresh air and how nice it was outside. Neice sees Zayiah as soon as she gets there with a blanket and snack as well. He’s sitting and looking at the water wave around. She sits next to him and they both end up talking to each other for a while, a beautiful, pure moment for both of them. After some time, Zayiah tells Neice he wants to ask her a very important question and she looks at him in a very nervous way but says “go for it”. He then asks her if she would be his valentine on this lovely beach on this perfect day as the sun is rising. She tries her hardest not to cry, and she happily says yes. They lovingly and happily hug each other. He then turns around and gives her flowers, a teddy bear, and a card. Neice didn’t end up spending Valentine’s Day alone after all.
Let this be a reminder to never give up on yourself, love, or hope because you never know what God has in store for in the long run.
