Top 5 Best Christmas Movies

With Christmas approaching quickly, I decided to ask my peers their thoughts about the Top 5 best Christmas movies. I listed a wide variety of films, such as Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Christmas with the Kranks, Elf, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, etc. Then I asked them to pick the best one and explain why they chose that movie. I received 93 responses. Here are the results…

Home Alone

Home Alone was released in 1990 and filmed in various locations around the Chicagoland area. The movie received two Academy Award nominations and a Golden Globe nomination.

In 1st place, we have Home Alone. 38% of voters believe it’s the best Christmas movie. According to my results, this movie was voted #1 because of its humor. Voters described the movie as a classic since it remains well-known 33 years after its release. Some students also said they enjoy Home Alone because it’s not based on the holiday. It just happens around Christmas time.

The Polar Express

The Polar Express was released in 2004. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the movie was adapted from the book by Chris Van Allsburg. (Unkown)

In 2nd place, The Polar Express received 19.4% of votes. Students who voted for this movie connected the classic film to tradition and nostalgia. They said it brings back memories of watching it in elementary school while drinking hot chocolate.

Voters stated that The Polar Express is the perfect movie because of its plot – where the characters visit the North Pole and regain their belief in Santa.

 

 

 

     How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How the Grinch Stole Christmas was made in 2000. The movie is adapted from Dr. Seuss’ children’s book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

With 13.9% total votes, How the Grinch Stole Christmas was ranked 3rd place. The movie brings nostalgia to voters, having watched it with their parents. How the Grinch Stole Christmas also has iconic jokes and memorable lines. Those who voted for this classic love the wholesome and hilarious content of the movie.

 

The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas was made in 1993. The movie contains Tim Burton’s signature style.

The Nightmare Before Christmas came in 4th place with 11.1% of the overall votes. Voters noted its impressive stop motion and unique film style, making it one of their favorite Christmas movies. They also said that the movie’s musical playlist is superior. Since it involves two of the best holidays, voters think this movie is well-receiving of one of our Top 5 votes.

 

Elf

Elf was released in 2003. It had a box office success of about $225.1 million worldwide.

 

Lastly, in 5th place, Elf had 4.6% of the votes. Voters said the movie is “superior” because of its timeless humor. They stated it gets them into the Christmas spirit.

Some even claimed, despite all the humor, Elf has an important message, which makes it a cinematic masterpiece.
