As the seasons change, EPHS is getting ready to celebrate Winter Break. As students are preparing to finish finals, the buzz about break grows in the hallways. The diversity of students brings the question, “What are EPHS students doing over Winter Break?”. We’ve got some answers.

  • Tessa LaRocco – Going on vacation
    • “I’m going skiing with my friends.”
  • Eleanor Figueroa – Visiting family
    • “I’m going to my aunt’s house to celebrate Christmas on the 24th then on actual Christmas, I’m staying home with my mom and brother.”
  • Brian Avila Martinez – Going on vacation
    • “I am going to Florida…Miami for a week in the beginning of winter break”
  • Jailani Rodriguez – Visiting family
    • “I’m going to visit my family and spend Christmas Day with them. I’m also going to eat a lot of food over break…like a lot of food.”
  • Dolly Jendruczek – Staying at home
    • “Staying home to make presents for my birds. I don’t celebrate western Christmas because I’m Orthodox, so January 7th is when my Christmas is.”
  • Zayd – Staying at home
    • “I plan on relaxing and letting out all of the stress from Midterms. After that, I think I will go out with friends and practice soccer with some friends.”

  • Ximlu Mainit – Staying at home
    • “I’m staying home for Christmas this year and keeping up all the festive traditions my family normally does – playing music, preparing food, and going to Church. I hope to be able to drive around Chicago, Rosemont, or even just aroundEP to see the decorations. Regardless of where or what I’ll see, watching the knock-off Hallmark movies on TV is definitely part of the plan for Break.”
  • Alexandria Mendoza – Staying at home
    • “I stay home with my family and we cook and bake.”
  • Damian Vojtech – Staying at home
    • “Fortnite, soccer, sleep, repeat.”
  • Adrian Arzuaga – Staying at home
    • “Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.”
  • Danny Dohoney – Hanging out with friends
    • “Video games.”
  • Megan Derewonko – Staying at home
    • “Nothing, tbhhh.”
Here is last year’s National Honor Society wrapping gifts. This is to support Adopt-A-Kid. Helping kids in need is a great way to start off the holiday season.

  • Livia Sina –  Staying at home
    • “I’m grounded..”
  • Nel Winiarczyk  – Going on vacation
    • “I hope I can go to Florida so that I can get a tan.”
  • Olivia Shipinski – Visiting family
    • “On Christmas Eve, I am staying home with my brother and parents and we have dinner with 7 types of fish because it is a tradition. Then, on Christmas Day, we are going to my grandma’s house to exchange gifts and celebrate.”
  • Sofia N. – Going on vacation
    • “I’m going to Florida during Winter Break with my family.”

  • Serafina Feltman – Going out with friends
    • “We will go to Christkindlmarket.”
  • Nicole Taha – Staying at home
    • “My family is hosting Christmas at our house.”
  • Raymundo and Jose Manjarrez – Going on vacation
    • “Pro trial with a team in Brazil.”
  • Destiny V. – Seeing family
    • “I am going to see my dad’s side of the family on Christmas so I can give them there presents. My sister and my step-father are coming in so I can see them, and we might spend our time downtown.”
Here is a chart from the Google Form used to find out what students are doing during break. It is broken up into 5 categories. Most students are staying home this year.

Winter Break is the lengthiest school break during the academic year, excluding Summer Break. I know the student body is ready to kick back, relax, and spend time with family and friends during this cold season.
