I’ve been a fan of the Pokemon series for almost 13 years. I’ve had my favorites over the years, but I’ve always wondered what other people think. Over the summer, a poll was conducted on very popular Pokemon community boards. There are over 1,025 Pokemon as of November 2025, and this poll listed the 10 most popular Pokemon, according to the community. I also include some of the Pokemon that got NO votes at all.
- Greninja
Greninja is the final form of Froakie, who was the water type starter in the Pokemon X & Y games. Back in 2019, it actually WAS the most popular Pokemon. Now it sits at the bottom of the top 10. The “scarf” that you see around its neck is actually its tongue.
- Umbreon
One of the two evolutions of Eevee on this list. It’s a Dark type and was introduced back in Gold & Silver. It leaks poisonous sweat from its pores, and its yellow rings glow underneath the moonlight. While it isn’t the most popular of the Eevee evolutions, it’s definitely one of the cooler ones.
- Piplup
Another water type starter. This one is from Diamond and Pearl. This was actually tied with the 7th place entry but lost the tiebreaker. It’s very proud and doesn’t like to be taken care of, even though it’s a poor walker.
- Eevee
This tied with the same amount of votes as Piplup. It’s a normal type from the very first group of Pokemon in 1996. It’s seen as a second mascot to Pikachu (who isn’t on the list, believe it or not). It’s extremely well known for being able to evolve into several different forms, one of those being our number nine, Umbreon, and another one we’ll see later on the list.
- Lucario
One of the more traditional cool Pokemon. This guy is also from Diamond and Pearl. It has the ability to sense the aura of all things, and it can tell what others are feeling from several miles away. This Pokemon was also very high on the list during 2019.
- Bulbasaur
The first and only Red and Blue starter on this list (not counting Eevee). It’s a duel grass and poison type. The small bulb on its back is its main source of nutrition and it can live for days on end just living off of the energy in its bulb.
- Mudkip
The final starter on the list, yet another water type that was introduced in Ruby and Sapphire. It uses the fin on its head to move around more efficiently. And despite its small size, it has the ability to crush boulders. It’s one of my personal favorite starters so I’m very happy to see it in the top ten.
- Gengar
We made it to the top 3! Gengar is a ghost/poison type from Red and Blue. It’s a huge prankster and rarely ever means any harm. However, when it does, it’s been known to steal the heat from around a person and even take their life energy. It will do so by hiding in the person’s shadow and then lay a curse on them.
- Sylveon
The final Eevee evolution on this list. It’s a pure fairy type from X and Y. It uses the ribbons that wave around its body to sense something’s aura, similar to Lucario from earlier on the list. It’ll also use those ribbons to grab onto their trainer while they are walking, as if holding their hand, as well as to relax them.
- Mimikyu
Finally, the most popular Pokemon, according to the fans, is Mimikyu! It’s a ghost and fairy type from the Pokemon Sun and Moon games. It bears a striking resemblance to the mascot Pikachu. That’s because its true form has been known to kill those just by looking at it, which is why people are so afraid to keep a Mimikyu. It wears the Pikachu costume as a way to be loved without hurting people.
Dishonorable Mentions
Even though there are plenty of favorites, there are also some Pokemon that aren’t as popular. The following are some of the Pokemon that got a whopping zero votes on the poll. I won’t go into as much detail about these guys, however.
Dipplin
A grass and dragon type resembling a candy apple. It evolves into Hydrapple after learning Dragon Cheer.
Fan Rotom
An electric/flying type form 0f the Pokemon Rotom based on a fan.
Illumise
A pure bug type based on a lighting bug. It has a counterpart Volbeat, which also got zero votes.
Oinkologe
A normal type that is just a pig. The males and females look a bit different.
