Our names are Eben Segarra and Joshua Martinez. We are here to tell you 5 foods to keep you warm while the wind stays cold and the temperature continues to plummet. It’s almost natural that we tend to depend on warm foods. Of course, there’s the basic hot cacao and sometimes porridge, but we are here to inform you of warm foods that stray from just drinks. The season of Christmas is meant to be celebrated with your family and friends, and what way is better than sharing a plate of some of your favorite food while watching the snow gracefully surface the floor. Today, we aim to present some foods that will add warmth to your mood as winter approaches.
Beef Stew

Beef stew is an easily recognizable type of stew that is always meant to be served steaming. The ingredients are pretty straightforward and don’t include any complicated techniques in order for it to thrive. Beef stew is usually made in large quantities and is meant to take control of small amounts of certain foods to make something more filling. The cooking time on beef stew can vary depending on how many ingredients you want to use but actively stays near 1 hr and 40 minutes. The way to cook beef stew is near impossible to accidentally mess up since it is just putting ingredients in a pot within a time limit.
The ingredients include…
- Beef (whichever type you prefer)
- Onion, carrots, and celery
- Tomato paste
- Beef broth
- Red wine
- Baby potatoes
Baked Spaghetti

This distinct dish is the type of comforting food that is able to please an entire family. The iconic dish is similar to spaghetti but is meant to be layered in a pan and smothered in cheese. Baked spaghetti is a turn to the idea of “what if we turned this into a casserole?” Baked spaghetti is intentionally meant to be eaten right out of the oven and to be enjoyed to the fullest. The total cooking time for baked spaghetti is near 1 hour, depending on how many portions of the dish you intend to eat. The ingredients pair with each other surprisingly well in hopes that it will be enough to please your day.
The ingredients include…
- Spaghetti
- Olive oil
- Onion and garlic
- Ground beef
- Tomatoes/tomato sauce
- Basil
- Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese
Homemade Mac and Cheese

An easily recognizable dish that’s known for its creaminess that’s simple to make but also tastes remarkably good. A full pan of homemade macaroni and cheese is meant to be eaten with others and is better than the one in a box. The ingredients are also straightforward, as it is only cheese, noodles, and seasonings of your choice. It is a great side dish, but it can also be eaten alone. It deliciously fills the stomachs of anyone that indulges in it. Warm macaroni and cheese is something we highly recommend for a family dinner to be eaten during any season.
Recommended ingredients include…
- Pasta
- Salt
- Additional seasonings (such as mustard powder)
- 3 cheeses of your choice
- Breadcrumbs

Fudge brownies
Fudge brownies are improved brownies: they have a gooey inside along with the ends being crispy and slightly chewy. The only change between fudge brownies and regular brownies is that fudge brownies are made with more eggs, further intensifying the texture and making them less cake-like. The upside to making brownies is that the cook time is about 30 minutes within the oven, but it could take nearly 1-2 hours for the brownies to cool to the right edible texture. Fudge brownies are an appetizing and simple dessert to eat on cold, stormy nights when there is nothing to do.
The ingredients include…
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Butter
- Oil
- Granulated sugar
- 2 whole eggs
- Chocolate chips

Apple Pie
Baking a pie is a staple when it comes to warm food, but it is also another reason to stay indoors during freezing snowbound days. Apple pie can be made year-round but can thrive in freezing temperatures solely due to the warmth the pie is able to bring out. The process of baking the pie is lengthy at 30 minutes for preparing the pie and 2 hours for the actual baking part, but it is definitely worth your time since pie can last a while without freezing it. The process of making apple pie isn’t difficult for beginners since the ingredients are fairly basic for a pie and can be set up in the pie crust within minutes. Baking and trying apple pie is definitely a must during the intensely cold days of winter.
The ingredients include…
- Two disks of pie crust
- Apples
- Butter and flour
- Cinnamon
- Sugar
- Egg wash
Conclusion
Warm foods come in different shapes and sizes, but they each fulfill the job of spreading warmth to your family and/or your friends. Enjoying food is another way to bring people together. It’s true that winter can be a harsh season, but it can also be considered one of the better seasons due to all of the downtime that you can spend with whoever you’d like. These foods and so many more are another way to pass the time while staying cozy inside. Cooking with your family nearing Christmas can be a wonderful experience that we would recommend trying.
