Hi Tigers, in this article Joshua Martinez and Eben Segarra will be showing off what some people recommend are the best things to do during Spring for our Intro to Journalism class. Spring concludes winter in a humid ending, bringing forth the start of warmer weather where we can all finally enjoy being able to go outside. Spring’s main focus is to be the transition between Winter-Summer, slowly warming up the temperatures while the weather becomes less extreme. Spring can include the reappearance of insects, an increase of rain, and the awakening of hibernating animals.
1.Camping
Camping is almost a must do as camping offers a view into the wildlife that was hidden for all of winter, as camping also gives you and whoever you bring something to do. Camping can be a great way to finally escape your house after Winter, along with taking in the beauty of nature. While camping, you have the possibility of either stargazing into the starry night, or if you feel more adventurous, explore the terrain and collect firewood to create a fire which you can roast marshmallows over to create smores. Camping also gives the possibility of learning new hobbies, like fishing or photography for example. While camping there is always something to do instead of staying on your phone for most of the day. Camping offers a retreat from the in-home life we all had to endure during winter, in order to prepare us for summer where we can be outside for all the time.
2. Hiking

Hiking is a less engaging experience when compared to camping, but that doesn’t mean hiking is overall worse. Hiking’s main/end goal is to be at the peak of the trail where you can have an amazing overview of the area you just climbed. Once you reach the peak of the trail, it is advised that you take photos of the view, or simply sit down and have a picnic. It’s said that the hike can be calming while also a great way to enjoy the warm weather, being able to go outside without any type of extra clothing. Hiking also offers health benefits not only improving your cardiovascular system but also improving your balance, bone density, and offering skills like improving your pacing, allowing you to jog/run for a longer distance. Hiking is advised for people who want to indulge in the effects of better weather, or are interested in nature and fitness.
3. Water park

March is usually when most water parks begin to open to the public. If you already don’t know what a water park is, they are essentially a quick local access to a body of water. Water parks are most enjoyed with friends and family as going to a water park alone doesn’t feel the same. Water parks offer water slides, which are a take on amusement parks roller coasters, but with water and no coaster. Pools and lazy rivers are a common attraction that all water parks have. There are also concession stands within a water park where you can buy snacks or pool gear. Regardless, the spring sun can sometimes be unpredictable and could lead to days where it is 80 degrees or 50, however, that still doesn’t mean water parks can’t be enjoyed with lower temperatures.
4. Amusement parks

Some of the most iconic amusement parks tend to re-open during February and March, and we personally recommend going to one as soon as you can. Amusement parks hold all sorts of attractions ranging from exhilarating rides, to basic rides that aren’t as exhilarating. The most common amusement park attractions include roller coasters, of course, dark rides, Ferris wheels, haunted houses, and the drop tower. Amusement parks house many types of intense emotions when riding blood pumping rides, but most parks also include merch shops or concession stands just like water parks. Going to an amusement park also is a great way to get some sun and enjoy the spring weather. Amusement parks hold all types of entertainment, whether if you want something calm, or fast paced, any park you go to will fulfill your desire.
5. Explore Chicago/enjoy your time

Downtown Chicago offers numerous activities perfect for curing boredom. We suggest exploring the arts, visiting a museum, or discovering new wildlife at an aquarium. Enjoy the slightly unpredictable weather with a walk through a park. Don’t forget to savor Chicago’s unique culinary delights, such as Italian beef and hot dogs. You could also gather friends for a sport or relax by listening to new music from favorite artists. Although spring weather is a welcome change from the harsh winter, don’t let any weather keep you indoors. Chicago has so much to offer, and staying inside means missing out on all the city has to display.
Spring brings a pleasant change from intense cold to inviting warmth, encouraging us to get outside. The season offers a wide variety of activities, from tranquil family outings to the excitement of amusement park rides. The only limit to what you can do is what you are ready to explore. We trust our article has given you some great suggestions for making the most of the lively spring season. We hope you seize the opportunities we’ve presented and enjoy the consistently warmer weather.
