The Cubs in 2026 have had a slow start but have been performing like World Series contenders as of recently. They fell to the bottom of the standings at the beginning of the year but have since skyrocketed right to the top in 1st place. The Cubs pitching has been on and off this year, which is better than what was projected. The offense has never been better and is continuing to do absolutely amazing.
Cubs Off-Season

The Chicago Cubs off-season was considered much better than it was last year, as they actually used some money and acquired players. Alex Bregman getting signed for 5 years at $175 million and Owen Caissie being traded to the Miami Marlins for starting pitcher Edward Cabrera have set the Cubs up for success in the 2026 season. Even though they lost a majority of their bullpen to free agency, they signed many relief pitchers who have performed very well this season. And although they lost Kyle Tucker to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Cubs offense was spectacular before the 2026 regular season. The Cubs also extended All Star outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and Multi-time Gold Glover Nico Hoerner to different 6 year deals individually.
Beginning of 2026 Season

The beginning of the 2026 season was rough for the Chicago Cubs, as they were in last place in the standings and lost their best pitcher, Cade Horton, for the entire year. But as the bats started heating up, pitchers no one expected stepped up to perform way above expectations. Javier Assad, Edward Cabrera, and even Ben Brown started doing excellently as star pitchers like Cade Horton, Matthew Boyd, and Justin Steele went down with injuries. Nico Hoerner has been the best 2nd basemen in the league all around the board and things couldn’t be going any better.
Making the postseason?

If the Chicago Cubs continue to play at the pace they have been this year, their ticket to the postseason will be inevitable. With the success of the Cubs at their home stadium, Wrigley Field, the Cubs are destined for postseason success and hopefully a World Series Championship, which would mark exactly one decade since the Cubs team won the World Series in 2016. This 2026 Cubs team is willing to go all the way, but will postseason struggles mess it up? Will the annual second half fall off hit the Cubs, causing them to miss the postseason? With the Chicago Cubs, we will never fully know what will happen in the future.
