Williams began his career at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. As a dual-threat quarterback and play-maker, Williams caught the attention of various scouts. He finished his high school career with the Elite 11 Finals MVP, awarded to the nation’s top high school quarterback prospect.
Prior to the draft, Williams was expected to suit up for the University of Oklahoma. However, when the infamous Lincoln Riley—Oklahoma’s head coach—left for USC, Williams followed suit in what is considered the most scandalous transfer in college football history. This was a transfer needed for Williams to play progression. However, when he had the opportunity to play with the USC Trojans, he did not fail.
Williams didn’t stop with his memorable NCAA season—he transferred to USC his freshman season and took the Trojans to an 11-3 record with over 4,500 yards passing, 42 passing touchdowns, and 10 rushing touchdowns. He won the Heisman Trophy. Forget completion percentage or rushing yards—Williams solidified his name among the greatest to ever play college quarterback. Moreover, he was only the second Trojan quarterback (besides Matt Leinart) to receive such infamous honors.
